Isn’t it great when a band comes along and reinvigorates your interest in an entire genre of music? To my ears pop-punk had nearly gone the way of the dinosaurs. It was in it’s last throes for sure. Granted, Green Day made their best album in 10 years, which was pretty exciting and Fall Out Boy has really energized the masses with their platinum selling album. But at some point there needs to be a debut album from a band that you can believe will really carry the torch for years to come. Robb Hitt, the drummer for Midtown and co-founder of I Surrender Records may have found that band in Valencia. Calling the band at 3am with his desire to sign the band shows the energy that the demo tape generated in Hitt and I’m sure that you’ll find that “This Could Be A Possibility” has carried that energy into the full length format. I could throw out all the tried and true adjectives: fast, energetic, catchy, etc etc etc but I think Hitt’s seal of approval on the album is all that any card carrying pop-punk fan will need for assurance that this album rocks, regardless of what I have to say about it. If you want to know what the album sounds like, think (and here’s one of those horrid comparisons that the band will probably hate me for) Midtown somewhere in between “Living Well...” and “Forget What You Know” that is: solid pop-punk that doesn’t just rest on its 3 chord laurels. |
