If I had heard “Take A Drink” from Quietdrive’s e.p. Fall From The Ceiling before the end of last year it would have easily made it into my Top 10 Songs of 2005 list. It’s that good. Quietdrive is that good. A quintet from (the currently frozen tundra of) Minnesota Quietdrive is poised to make a huge mark in the music world in 2006 their debut full length hits shelves this spring and I cannot wait to see what these guys have in store for us. despite only having 3 songs on the e.p. Quietdrive manage to make each of them sound different. That diversity is an important part of how I base my overall view of an album. Two of the songs, “Take a Drink” and “Maybe Misery” have a decidedly poppy base to the rock foundation. But the darker feel of “Maybe Misery” sets it apart from “Take a Drink.” But the meat between the two pop-rock slices of bread on this e.p. is a harder rockin’ track called “Rise From The Ashes” that really makes your heart do what it was meant to, pump blood! Rumor has it that these boys put on a rockin’ live show (and there’s video evidence of it on the web) and with songs like these I don’t know how they couldn’t. A determined focus, great songs and dedication to non-stop touring (hell, they’ve come all the way to Connecticut twice recently just to play at a couple of teen centers!) will undoubtedly spell success for these Minnesotans. Lets just hope that Epic Records knows what they hold in their hands and fully gets behind them when the full-length comes out. But until then make sure to head over to iTunes and download the e.p. (or better yet go to one of their live shows and get it for free!) and then in two years when they’re selling out arenas you can say “I was into them back then.” By Kimberly Dalton |
