  The Question

I was ready to pretty much write off “screamo” for good. In the interest of full disclosure I was never a big fan of the genre. I had my two staples: Finch (What it is to Burn) and Thursday (War All the Time, Full Collapse) and didn’t figure I’d ever need to buy another “screamo” CD in my life. All the other “screamo” bands that I have heard are either too gutteral, too salivary or too bandwagon. Until, that is, I heard Emery. A complex album that can’t easily be tossed into the “screamo” genre. The vocals are pleasant, the screams are energetic and clean (and necessary) and the music is filled with the intricacies of two guitar, keyboard accentuated rock. And the lyrics are as positive and as thoughtful as the packaging of The Question itself.I find myself at a loss of words to describe the album. If “screamo” isn’t your thing in the least then I suggest heading over to the iTunes music store and purchasing “Studying Politics.” It’s my favorite track on the album and undoubtedly in the top running for my favorite song of the year. There’s no screaming, but enough passion, energy and anxiety to get your heart racing. Do yourself a favor and ask yourself the question: Why don’t I own this album yet?
